Legalese is a character driven Role Playing Game for the lawyers and legal professionals* of television and film. It is a game for players age 18 and older.
Though Legalese has its roots in the Law and Order SVU and Boston Legal universes, we want to include lawyers from any television and/or film fandom. This, however, does not mean that all of the characters in Legalese must be from a "legal show". For example, we'd be happy to have Stacy from House or Sam from The West Wing.
Multiple fandoms take place in multiple cities; however, this fact does not make for easy gaming. On essential facet of Legalese is its setting. We have chosen New York City as the breeding ground for our role playing delights. Most major firms, not to mention government agencies employing legal professionals, have affiliate offices in New York City. Thus, it is, in our opinion, the best place in which to facilitate easy transport of your character from their fandom's hometown to our game. Should anyone wish to play a District Attorney from another fandom, we will gladly furnish that player with an NYC borough of her/his own.
We would also like to note that we encourage potential players to apply with original characters; however, we do ask that these characters be situated with a particular fandom. This simply allows for an easier transition of your OC into the game.
While we do encourage creativity in a potential players choice of fandom, this game does not allow for Science Fiction fandoms (i.e. Stargate, Star Trek, Star Wars, Dr. Who etc). That lawyer from that episode of TNG might have been as awesome as your plan to have her timetravel back to 21st Century New York, but we, your friendly mods, must set limits to the structure of the game. While we think sci-fi is awesome, we would like to keep Legalese grounded in as much reality as possible (But Stargate is really really realistic! Yeah, but Alan Shore traveling through the Stargate in order to defend Sam Carter at Atlantis just isn't...and besides, he looks too much like Daniel Jackson).
So you're thinking about applying, right? Great! There are a few things we would like to encourage you to think about before starting the application process. First and foremost, you must be at least 18 years old to apply. When you've decided what character you would like to play, take a look at the character pages on our wiki. We would strongly encourage you to read the any biographies of characters from your fandom that are already in play. Your intended character might show up as an integral part to another player's character biography; this is something you should be aware of, as it is something you will have to work with should your application be approved. Even if you are applying for an OC, it is still important that you are aware of the canon/OC characters in play from the fandom in which you have chosen to situate your creation.
*By the term "legal professionals" we mean judges, law clerks, DA's office and law firms' investigative units etc.
Here is a list of played characters, their respective fandoms, and their occupations. Keep in mind that a players occupation within the game might not be the same as his or her occupation within his or her show's canon.
